About Pat...
Pat Dornan is a semi-rehabilitated computer geek who likes doing the things that you need to do, but don’t want to do yourself. Things like income tax returns, sales tax returns, and payroll processing.
His career path has been unconventional. Starting off with an undergraduate degree in philosophy (a credential that no employer finds useful), he snagged a civil service job as a budget analyst. During that time, he earned a masters degree in business administration (MBA), and later took a job as a manager in the car rental business.
After earning the graduate-level MBA degree, he took numerous undergraduate accounting courses to qualify for the CPA exam, which he passed, and became a CPA. He took a job with a CPA firm in Dallas, specializing in installing and supporting accounting software.
Pat’s computer geek phase kicked into high gear when he became a software developer (also known as “computer programmer”) for a firm specializing in products for CPAs. For the next 10 years or so, he wrote programs for tax calculation, personal financial planning, and financial projections for startup businesses.
Since returning to south Louisiana in 2005, Pat has founded the firm Patrick Dornan, CPA, LLC, providing tax planning and tax return preparation for individuals and small businesses. The business clients typically are sole proprietors, single and multi-member LLCs, and S corporations.
The firm also provides services for users of Intuit’s QuickBooks accounting software, including installation, training, support, and troubleshooting. Through its Pro Advisor program, Intuit has developed certification tests to gauge one’s knowledge and ability with the QuickBooks system. Pat has been a Certified QuickBooks Pro Advisor since 2006, and he has achieved the highest certification as an Advanced Certified QuickBooks Pro Advisor, one of only three within 50 miles of Baton Rouge.
